Waterfowl Hunting Safety Guidelines
Safety is paramount in waterfowl hunting. Major League Hunts follows strict safety protocols to protect hunters, guides, and dogs in the field.
No Drugs or Alcohol
- Absolutely no drugs (including marijuana) or alcohol is permitted in the field.
- No exceptions!
Firearm Handling
- Firearms remain on safe until the guide calls the shot.
- After each volley, firearms must be returned immediately to safe.
- Do not reload until everyone is safely back in the pit or blind.
- Always maintain proper muzzle control and situational awareness.
Shot Discipline
- Do not shoot before the guide calls the shot on decoying birds.
- Maintain a “10 & 2” shooting lane and never shoot over other hunters.
Legal Requirements for Colorado Waterfowl Hunting
All hunters must meet Colorado and federal legal requirements before entering the field.
Licenses & Stamps Needed
Every hunter must have:
- A valid Colorado small game license;
- Federal migratory bird hunting and conservation stamp;
- Colorado state waterfowl stamp; and
- HIP registration.
Ammunition Requirements
Only approved non-toxic shot—such as steel, bismuth, or tungsten—is permitted for waterfowl.
Hunters are individually responsible for meeting all legal requirements. Major League Hunts is not liable for licensing or compliance.
Rehunt Policy
We work hard to put hunters on birds, but waterfowl can be unpredictable. If your hunt party does not receive at least two shooting opportunities at decoying birds, the following options may be offered:
- Extend your half-day hunt to a full-day hunt at no additional charge (subject to guide and hunter availability); or
- Schedule a rehunt at a 50% discount of the standard rate.
Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy
- Hunts are non-refundable within 72 hours of the scheduled hunt time.
- No-shows or last-minute cancellations are not eligible for refunds.
- If rescheduling before the 72-hour window, a $125 rescheduling fee may apply.
Youth Hunter Policy
Major League Hunts proudly supports youth hunters and the future of waterfowling.
- Youth hunters 15 and under hunt free when accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or qualified adult mentor.
- Only the first youth is free; additional youth hunters are charged 50% of the standard rate.
Dog Policy
Client dogs are welcome on guided hunts, provided they are steady, obedient, and reliable.
- Dogs must respond to commands and remain under control.
- Guides may deny a dog or request its removal if safety becomes a concern.
Hunting Etiquette Expectations
Respectful behavior keeps hunts safe, smooth, and enjoyable. Please keep the following in mind:

Be Helpful & Appreciative
Assisting with setup and teardown is part of the experience; please help!
Gratuity for your guide is always appreciated.
