Colorado: A Goose Magnet
Colorado’s Front Range and Eastern Plains offer prime winter habitat for migrating Canada geese. Each year, northern freezing temperatures and diminishing food sources drive these birds south. Early in November, the first migrants to arrive are smaller geese, known as Lessers, followed later by the larger Greater Canada geese. Thanks to abundant food in agricultural fields and large reservoirs of open water that provide safe resting roosts, Colorado has become a premier destination for goose hunting.
Our Colorado Goose Hunting Locations
Geese follow predictable daily flight paths between feeding fields and water roosts, creating productive and reliable hunting opportunities. These daily routines are both instinctual and learned, and geese often return to the same fields each season.
Our expert guides hand-select fields based on their local knowledge of these flight patterns. Many of these fields are imprinted destination fields, often referred to by hunters as the “X.” Hunting in these type fields ensures maximum opportunities for both Canada and Snow goose hunting.
Our hunting fields are located in the following areas.
- Longmont
- Greeley
- Wiggins
- Fort Morgan
- Merino
Colorado Goose Hunting Details
Most hunts take place from temporary dirt pits in the center of our fields. These pits are fully lined with landscape fabric to create a nearly dirt-free environment. All pits accommodate up to 6 hunters. Our custom shooting lids offer excellent visibility allowing for “in your face” action. Additionally, propane heaters keep you warm and comfortable when temperatures drop.
Later in the season, some hunts take place from panel or A-frame blinds on the edges of fields. This shift is necessary for two reasons:
- Geese can deplete the center of feeding fields over time, moving to the edges.
- Hunting pressure from central pits can push birds toward field perimeters.
By adapting each hunt to these conditions, we maximize success and deliver a thrilling, productive experience every time.
